Who We Are

Our Life Care Managers are advocates for our clients as well as for families who are caring for older relatives or disabled adults. We hold advanced degrees and have extensive experience in areas such as nursing, social work, counseling, public health or psychology with a specialized focus on issues related to complex medical conditions, mental health, special needs, disabilities and elder adults experiencing the aging process.

Our Life Care Managers (previously known as Geriatric Care Managers) have extensive knowledge about the costs, quality, and availability of resources in our community. An Aging Life Care Professional holds one of the four approved certifications and is a member of the Aging Life Care Association (ALCA), which differs greatly from “self-proclaimed” individuals claiming to be patient advocates, senior advisors, senior navigators, and even geriatric care managers. ALCA members must meet stringent criteria set by the association, including higher education, extensive work experience, continuing education, and certification requirements. All ALCA members as well as my team members are required to adhere to ALCA’s strict Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.

Lory Smeltzer, BA, MPH, CMC, Owner/Administrator, Certified Aging Life Care Professional

Lory Smeltzer is the founder and primary owner of Advanced Senior Solutions, Inc., which was established in Aug. 2000. She earned the designation of “Advanced Member” from the Aging Life Care Association® and is a Certified Professional Life Care Manager through NACCM.  After receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force, Lory earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Public Health, both from the University of South Florida. Lory has lived in Pinellas county since 1978 and she has over 25 years of experience working in Mental Health Case Management as a Baker Act Liaison and in Medical Social Services for a local hospital organization.  Lory is a member of the Area Agency on Aging, Better Living for Seniors, and the Guardian Association. She’s actively involved in several local charities giving away gratis time helping those in need and presents on numerous professional speaking topics throughout the community. As recent empty-nesters, Lory and her husband and business partner Russ Jackson are dedicating most of their time to expanding Advanced Senior Solutions services into other counties in Florida. But in their limited spare time, you can find them tending to their vegetable and rose garden or working on home improvement projects.

Gaye Pollino, BA, CMC, Certified Aging Life Care Professional

Gaye Pollino came to Advanced Senior Solutions in 2012 with a long, varied background in care giving, daily money management, hospice and care management scheduling. Gaye holds an Associates Degree in Accounting and a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling from Trinity College. She is a Certified Aging Life Care Manager through NACCM and an Advanced member of the Aging Life Care Association (ALCA). Her prior experience includes certified nursing assistant, patient care tech and Hospice Bereavement support volunteer. All of these disciplines has allowed Gaye to bring a full scope of care management services to our aging and disabled clients.  Gaye is especially skilled in assessing our clients specific needs and creating individualized plans of care.  With her counseling degree, she’s an expert in client/family mediation, helping to educate and guide family members who are dealing with the difficult aspects of care giving, and is a strong yet compassionate advocate.  Her generosity and caring spirit is evident in how she assists her clients and also in her community involvement where she volunteers at church and at a local soup kitchen.

Linda Deyo, BSW, MPA, LSW, Life Care Manager

Linda Deyo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and is a Licensed Social Worker with over 30 years’ experience as a Case Manager / Social Worker.  She has excellent communication skills, rapport building and leadership skills while interfacing with a variety of clients and families.   She has expertise in performing comprehensive assessments and in developing individualized plans of care with the aged, mental health and special needs clients. Linda also specializes in helping clients/families find the most appropriate living alternative and then oversees the entire relocation process. She also assists clients with bill paying services and filing/disputing health insurance claims. For 15 years prior to working for Advanced Senior Solutions, Linda has focused her career on Medical Case Management within the hospice care setting.  She has extensive knowledge of hospice programs and the various concerns families may have at end of life.  She developed a Transition’s program for clients ‘not yet ready for hospice care and collaborated with a nursing students’ internship program which educated students on end of life care.  Linda addresses sensitive issues in a caring and emphatic manner yet works effectively and efficiently.  Linda is most proud of her 2 daughters, and 2 granddaughters.  In her free time, you will find Linda enjoying sports, walking her dog, cooking and travel.

Maria Mason, RN,  Nurse Care Manager

Maria Mason has over 30 years of experience as a Registered Nurse. She has worked in many facets of the healthcare delivery system; from hospitals, home health care, insurance case manager and health care navigator with the Intercultural and Hispanic outreach and Advocacy Center working with both private physicians and local non-profit agencies. Maria is fluent in Spanish and cherishes working with people of all ages in assessing needs, coordinating their care and accessing available resources for seniors and disabled adults. Maria lives in Largo and is a graduate of St. Petersburg College of Nursing. She enjoys the outdoors, walking and hiking, writing and reading, and in her free time she teaches chair yoga. She is the author of “Make me an Instrument” a book of short stories, essays and poetry.

Robin Newman, BA, MSW Life Care Manager

Robin Newman holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut. She has over 30 years’ experience in the social work field and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.  Robin worked for local government in Connecticut and has extensive direct service and administrative experience for the provision of senior, youth and social service programs, recreation programs, adult day care programs, and transportation services for the elderly and disabled populations.  She relocated to Florida in 2008 to be closer to her parents. Since her relocation, Robin has developed areas of expertise as an EAP consultant, and the provision of care management services while working for a large insurance company, which included completing assessments and developing individualized care plans for seniors, and special needs clients.  She enjoys spending time with her family (her son, daughter and grandson also moved to FL), going to the gym, listening to music, travel, and reading.

Angela Dryden, RN, CLCP,  Nurse Care Manager

Angela Dryden has an extensive nursing and complex medical case management background in various settings to include skilled nursing rehab centers and sub-acute hospitals. She excels in her assessment skills and in creating a solid care plan for our seniors and adult disabled clients. She is a Certified Life Care Planner whereby she develops in depth care plans for victims of accidents or injuries. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners.

Gail Burdick, LPN, Nurse Care Manager

Gail Burdick has over 40 years of experience in nursing including Spinal Cord Injury, Assisted Living Director of Nursing, and Care Management. As a Nurse Care Manager with Advanced Senior Solutions since 2008, Gail assists clients and their families with the multi-facets of the Health Care industry. She performs comprehensive nursing assessments and creates an individualized plan of care for each particular client. She also assists with medication management and acts as a physician liaison between client and their responsible party. She is a strong patient advocate overseeing the care of our clients whether they are in their home, assisted living, hospital, rehab or nursing center. Under Gail’s nursing license, she can perform medication management visits which includes taking vital signs and checking for any edema, skin, breathing, nutrition, and hydration issues.  Gail has the keen ability to think outside the box in finding creative solutions to problems. She lives in Indian Rocks Beach and has been married for 36 years with a grown son, daughter, and grandson.

Patti Lemon, RN, Nurse Care Manager

Patti brings to us over 35 years of nursing experience. Twenty of those have been spent working with seniors in various roles such as Home Health as a field RN and Supervisor, Health Coach, and the last seven years as a case manager. She specializes in dietary management for diabetes and weight loss, and development of self management protocols for the clients with COPD, CAD, CHF with documented improved health outcomes. She has practiced as a Physicians Technical Assistant with two different MD’s that sought her out. Due to this experience of making rounds on hospital patients and mentoring from the MD’s, she excels in observation and assessment skills with rapid interventions to prevent complications of symptoms and meeting gaps in care in any aspect of her client’s life. She’s assisted many seniors to be able to stay in their homes with not only having the knowledge of the resources available to them, but succeeding in the sometimes challenging process of getting them to accept assistance. Her recent work experience involved not only as a field care manager, but she also functioned as a social worker. In her free time, Patti plans to have lots of company, and visit her daughters and grandson.

Marne Simpson, RN, Nurse Care Manager

Marne Simpson has been a RN for many years and has a vast array of nursing experience including case management, utilization management, cardiac, medical, surgical, oncology, hospice and skilled nursing. She has been a part-time Nurse Care Manager with Advanced Senior Solutions since 2007. She performs nursing assessments, advocacy and chronic disease prevention and education. Under Marne’s nursing license, she can perform medication management visits which includes taking vital signs and checking for any edema, skin, breathing, nutrition, and hydration issues.  Marne is originally from Ohio but has lived in Florida for many years. She loves to spend time with family, and also loves to cook and be near the water.

James Sullivan, BS, MSA, Life Care Manager

James Sullivan has worked in healthcare for over 18 years. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Community Health and a Master’s of Science in Administration. His work experience includes Social Worker II for the Department of Human Services working on clinical treatment teams, admission and discharge units, and worked as a wellness expert to seniors for a large insurance provider completing Medicare and Medicaid assessments in the Tampa Bay area. James earned certifications as a senior living sales counselor and as an assisting living administrator. He’s well versed in assessing and matching client’s level of care for placement and advocating for them while negotiating contracts and fees. He’s a member of Better Living for Seniors and is certified in global health and human services. With James’ experience in business development, he is working closely with the owners on the agency’s expansion efforts into other counties.

Bobbi Hosman (2)

Bobbi Hosman, Care Manager Associate

Bobbi Hosman has many years experience working with seniors, disabled adults and their family members in the community as well as in assisted living. She assists clients by assessing their level of care, researching and recommending the appropriate living environments that meet their needs and their budget, accompanying them on tours of facilities, and asking all the right questions so the client and their family can make a well-informed decision. She’s used this special skill-set not only with her clients, but also with her own family members.  Bobbi has a knack for winning over our most fussiest and resistant clients with her warm heart and genuine compassion. Bobbi is just shy of completing her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the same time she is mentoring under the owner Lory Smeltzer. Bobbi lives in Dunedin but sees clients throughout Pinellas County.

Tassia Asp, Case Coordinator

Tassia Asp has spent over 25 years working in various areas of customer service, office administration, human resources and sales. Tassia has been with Advanced Senior Solutions for over 4 years as Case Coordinator and is in charge of scheduling the homemaker/companions with our clients and in achieving the perfect fit. She maintains our office functions and keeps our client records up to date and organized. She also helps to keep everyone in our agency updated on their compliance pertaining to their individual licenses, certifications and background checks. Her qualities being that of patience and empathy in communicating with clients, their family members, and with our own staff is truly an asset in helping us to exceed our mission. During Tassia’s spare time she enjoys biking and exploring all that Florida has to offer.

Darci Funk

Darci Funk, Client Relations Specialist

Darci has over 30 years experience as an accomplished sales, business development, and marketing executive. She has used her extensive experience to pursue her passion which is working with the senior population, most recently in a large independent living community. Darci earned a certificate as a Senior Living Counselor and has applied that knowledge while working with seniors and their families in helping to navigate them through the many options of senior living so they can make an informed decision. Along the way, Darci has made valuable connections with the various resources and services in our community and she shares that information with our Care Managers so they have current knowledge of the numerous changes in our areas senior related industries in order to better client outcomes. In Darci’s spare time, she enjoys creating various types of mosaic, polymer and clay art, cooking, biking, spending time with friends and with her Boston Terrier Millie.

Russ Jackson, BS, Co-Owner/Business Office

Russ Jackson is the co-owner of Advanced Senior Solutions, Inc. and is Lory’s husband. Russ received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Wyoming with an emphasis in communications. After 20 plus years of experience in sales and marketing in the home security and medical alert system industry in the Tampa Bay area, Russ created SafetyWatch® Medical Alert Systems in 2006 in order to offer the best in products, monitoring and services to his clients across the nation. Russ has several roles as joint owner of Advanced Senior Solutions, but he primarily focuses on information technology, invoicing, payroll and works jointly with our CPA on accounting and finance. Russ enjoys watching sports of all kinds, especially the Broncos.
